Maybe I like the process, maybe the end result, or perhaps a bit of both, but painting feels to me like a way of connecting with fleeting dreams, visions, emotions, which are passing through our “real” world.
I grew up surrounded by abstract expressionism, whimsical watercolors, organic constructionism, and photography from my father’s 1940’s modern-art
gallery in Monterey, California. I am currently interested in painting natural subjects and invented constructions in various styles. I work in oils, acrylics, pen & ink, pencil, and watercolor. I want to explore where the painting or drawing takes me as well as where I take the painting.
I paint regularly with the East Bay Plein Air Painters, the Benicia Plein Air Painters (“DaGroup”), Art on the Farm, and the Plein Air Painters of Mendocino. I painted for one glorious week on a farm in Italy, and hope to repeat that soon! I recently joined Urban Sketchers of the Bay Area for regular urban sketchcrawls. I am a member of ProArts, and the Oakland Art Association.
